NEXA Credit Union has awarded 164 CPEA student grants for another consecutive year totaling over $48,000.00. The Credit Union is deeply rooted in the founding Credit Union philosophy of ‘people helping people.’ Under this philosophy, it was important for NEXA to support these students as they began a new academic journey.
The grant valued at $300.00 includes $250.00 for back-to-school expenses and $50.00 towards a Smart Saver account at NEXA. It is given to students who passed the CPEA exams and whose parents are in good standing as members.
General Manager of NEXA, Retesha Smith-Boyd, stated, “The CPEA grant is one way NEXA Credit Union assists its members and their families. We are thrilled to support the children of our members as they transition to the next level of their educational journey. “
She added, “These students are the next generation of NEXA members who will contribute to the continued advancement of our society, and we will be with them, supporting their hopes and dreams as they reach for their goals. We congratulate all the students entering secondary school and wish them the best.”
The Credit Union’s CPEA Grant Programme commenced in 2005 and has supported over 1700 students by helping to alleviate some of the expenses as they enter secondary school and teaching them smart money habits by saving at NEXA. This grant is one of the many ways that NEXA contributes to improving the lives of its members and equipping them with the tools to achieve their dreams.
NEXA Credit Union also offers ten scholarships annually to first-year students attending the T.A. Marryshow Community College based on need and performance and is open to members and non-members. Interested persons can download an application form on NEXA’s website or collect a form at any of NEXA’s five branches. The deadline for submission of applications this year was August 18th, 2023.
